Posy by AdamParsonsART - 30” x 40” Graphite on Illustration Board - 2022

This is Posy It’s the sequel to Shoal which I completed in 2021.

My goal is to do a series of ten different endurance pieces with different subjects. The aim here is to inspire you to be creative and to realize so much of art is about endurance and being bothered to put in the effort to make something, more than your level of skill as an artist. Similar to Shoal and drawing a fish, it’s safe to say that ANYONE CAN DRAW A FLOWER. In its basic form, a flower is a circle in the center with a bunch of circles around it that make it iconically look like a flower. Drawing one is easy… How about two?… Three? Three hundred?? Three thousand???

I first started Posy right after Christmas of 2021, but after four nights of drawing, I realized something was wrong in comparison to Shoal. The flowers were too BIG, which would remove a lot of that bewildered ‘wow’ when a view first sees it. As an artist drawing for over thirty-five years I’ve learned that the moment that little bell of concern goes off, rather than ignoring it or trying to work around it I decided to just start over. - I was only four sessions in. I could restart!

Day 1: 12.26.21.

Day 3: First attempt at Posy 12.29.21.

The next challenge came quickly. and it wasn’t from anything negative. Posy was looking great – TOO GREAT!

As I drew out the flowers it turned into a beautiful circle, and, as it did, I kept on thinking of all the beautiful things I could do with this big ball of flowers! Hot air balloons made of flowers were the first thing, not to mention, the fans of Posy on social media were all crying out. “STOP! It’s perfect as it is!” It was hard to argue that they were wrong. Every night I considered stopping– Not out of laziness, but because it FELT completed.

01.15.22. The GREAT circle of Posy

As always… I kept going…

Whilst I could have stopped, my objective is to create an image that’s filled with dedication and endurance as much as skill. I like to create something that’s near impossible to copy unless you can find someone with the same ideals of doing what others can’t #BEBOTHERED to do. If it’s a project that can be finished in a day or a week or two then anyone could do it! That’s boring to me.
