Painting is no longer a way for showing outsides, nor should it be. There are no many alternatives to capturing ‘reality.’
Painting should dig deep within, clutching at the basics and the detailed of us all; to describe how you feel, how you don't feel, and most importantly for me, how you don't know how you feel.
Look at what you start with. Just stop and look!
A beautiful canvas stretched on an equally handsome framework. A piece of wood
or paper from a tree that died so you may create on her. That, art in itself.
You must drive to surpass this beauty. (An almost impossible task.)
Go to a gallery and see a naked canvas on show. Look at it.
It should hold you spellbound. The questions are infinite.
What does this mean?
Does it mean anything?
What should it mean?
Should it mean something?
Is that important?
How should I feel?
how does that old man next to me feel?
If I pull back and he is in my view, is he a part of this art?
Am I?
Am I looking at the canvas, or is the canvas looking at me?
If I can touch one person positively,
then this has been a success.
God bless you all. |
